When
installing
the draintile
around your
new foundation
we recommend
using drain
tile that
is wrapped
with a cloth
sock. The
sock will
prevent
sediment
from collecting
inside your
tile which
will eventually
lead to
draintile
failure.
Which means
a wet basement
or crawl
space.
More importantly,
drain tile
should always
be placed
around the
foundation
footing
in the inside
of the house
as well
as the outside.
The top
of the tile
should be
even with
the top
of the footing.
It
is code
in most
areas that
drain tile
be placed
on the outside,
but not
always on
the inside.
Inside tile
will prevent
your basement
or crawl
from getting
wet when
the water
table around
your house
rises higher
than your
basement
floor. The
water table
will usually
do this
in the late
winter and
early spring
when the
snow starts
to melt
and the
spring rains
begin.
You can
purchase
socked drain
tile at
most lumber
yards or
plumbing
supply stores.
It will
be about
10% more
in cost
than regular
tile, but
you will
be money
ahead each
year when
the heavy
rains come.
